Artist’s Statement
In Indonesia, to discuss sex is still taboo, but sex education is particularly for the youth is particularly important in order to prevent negative divergences for girls and children. Sex education will inspire the meaning of reproduction, and not only in terms of exploitation. When I studied in Italy, my friends often talked about these issues.
One of the girls even said she was only in middle school when her mother took her to a medical doctor to choose a contraceptive. I guess such will only occur in Indonesia after one or two generations. The tubes in my work is an adaptaion the shape of a condom mould made of glass which is usually used for condom production.
These condom moulds were made different from one another and with unique shapes, hoping to give the impression of fun, but the glass nevertheless attaches a touch of fragility. This I present here to discuss sex, not as a forbidden discussion, but rather to inspire the people with understanding what sex really means.
